Most people say that the two most powerful words in written and spoken language is "I'm sorry." I disagree. I don't believe there are any more powerful words to a christian than "even still." Those two words can denote so many things, the most important being hope.
Someone has hurt you - even still you will love them. If Jesus, nailed to a cross after being taunted, spit on, whipped until the flesh was hanging from his body, crowned with thorns, and abandoned by his disciples, could still say "Father forgive them for they know not what they do," then we as christians who have learned to live by his life example can say to those who hurt us "even still."
You have lost your job - even still you will trust God to provide for your needs. You may not understand why it happened, you may be uncertain of the future, you may be wondering from where and when the next job will be coming, you may not have enough to pay all your bills, but you have God's promises in the bible and you can say "even still."
You have received a bad report from the doctor - even still you know that God is the great healer and that he has numbered all the days of your life. You will still have to go to the Dr., maybe even have treatments or surgery. You may still have physical and spiritual pain. You may not know what this earthly future holds for you. But you know that God's will be done whether that means more time here on earth, or more time in heaven, and you can say "even still."
Satan has come against you with an attack - even still you have the strength to overcome. Maybe he has been telling you lies. Maybe he has caused you to be discontent with what you have and convinced you that there is something better. Maybe he whispers to you that whatever bad things happen are God's fault. But my bible says that "greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world" and you can say "even still."
What is it that you are struggling with today? Yes, I know that there is something because we live in a fallen, sinful world. A world where things happen that don't make sense; a world where we are hurt, abandoned, abused, used, and lied to. A world where it is so easy to lose our trust, not just in our fellow man, but in our Saviour. Do you have an emptiness in you that can't be filled no matter how hard you try, a feeling that there has to be something more than this, a longing in you for a better place and a better life? There is only one who can fill that and his name is Jesus.
When you trust in God, when you read his love letter to you and believe his promises, when you turn your life over to him and say "not mine, but thy will be done", you will find a hope that allows you to weather any storm, a peace that surpasses all understanding, a joy that is so deeply rooted you can praise him always, especially in the hard times, and a spring of life that never runs dry but overflows out of your life and fills up others. When you trust in God you can say "even still."
